British eventing season 2023 off to a sticky start – but that’s not slowing Team Jones down

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

With the season’s opening Horse Trial at Oasby cancelled due to the snow and impossible ground, Lincoln Horse Trials was Team Jones first outing in 2023, for both the youngsters in the yard and for top ride Alfies Clover as he prepares his countdown to this Year’s 5* Badminton at the beginning of May.

On the day Richard actually withdrew a few of the younger horses from Lincoln. They had missed what should have been their first run of the season at Oasby and the bad weather had taken its toll on the ground which was testing to say the least. It was very wet and there were very few clears in the jumping but Alfie finished a good 9th, running a steady XC as planned. Richard said he felt in fantastic form, and was delighted that the young horses that did run all went well.

Richard Jones and Alfie are off to do the Advanced at Thoresby next, along with some more of the young horses and then all eyes are on Badminton with the aim of bettering Alfie’s 10th place in 2022!

Team Jones has been busy during the winter months upgrading the yard, adding more varied and challenging XC jumps on their course which is proving very popular with the top event riders, amateurs and novices alike. The yard is humming with horses, and everyone is looking to a successful 2023...
