Can Alfies Clover bring it home?
Richard and his top event ride Alfies Clover are on the countdown to this year’s Burghley 5* Horse Trials, with a mission to go better than their excellent 7th in 2022.
“It’s easy to say in hindsight, but we would have been within the top five if I had gone just that bit faster and incurred less time faults. This year, if conditions are good, we will crack on and make sure we have some running in the tank to eat up the time at the end”.
Alfie’s countdown will include another two stiff fitness canters following good runs at Burgham International 4* and a prior freshener at Upton OI. Meanwhile Victoria, now almost completely recovered from a serious bout of Lyme Disease, has been helping horse and rider perfect the flat work and those all-important flying changes.
“He’s on home turf and Burghley is a course he knows back to front – so if they change the order or direction of the jumps, he’ll be just fine!” Victoria added with a wry smile.
Richard will also be doing his now traditional Burghley Horse Trials 5* course walk – details of this later next week.
